Lockdown Drill
Excellent job with the lockdown drill on Thursday! Most students/staff were invisible and silent. In just a few rooms, we could see through the door window because the covering didn’t cover all of the way. We did find a few security issues that we need to resolve with the help of maintenance:
- No push lock on the staff room door or the kitchen door to stay safe during a drill.
- Blinds in the staff room are broken and people could be seen
- There are no speakers in the kitchen, so kitchen staff can’t hear the drill unless they are in the hall or the cafeteria due to the loud fans in the kitchen.
Emergency Sub Plans
All staff need to have emergency sub plans created and on file with Irene, just in case! Sometimes we get so sick that we are unable to make plans….please make those plans this week and get them to Irene! Thank you!
Copy Shop
We heard you loud and clear that staff felt that one way we could be more efficient would be if we had a central copy shop. Thanks to Cheryl Rice, we now do! Cheryl will be available to complete your copying needs from 9:45-10:45 am daily and she will be using the main copier in the work room during that time. If you have copy needs, please put them in the copy shop box in the workroom and fill out the form so that she knows what you need done. Please give 24 hours to complete your copy needs! :) Thanks, Cheryl!
Cougar Team Meeting this Week!
See calendar below for dates & times!
After School Programs
Manuel has already started Ballet Folklorico after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. Adalante Chicas will begin their after school club for 3rd and 4th grade girls starting on 10/27, every Tuesday from 3:30-5:00 pm, hopefully until the end of May (depending on funding). They will be doing an informational session during lunch on Thursday for our girls. 3rd grade girls need to sit together at lunch and 4th grade girls need to sit together at lunch on Thursday to hear about the Chicas program.
We will start an after school academic program (reading & math) definitely for 3rd and 4th graders, but I’m hoping to include our 2nd graders too, at the end of October. It will be Monday - Thursday from the last week of October until spring break. More info coming soon!
Fundraiser Assembly in the Gym - Tues 1:15-1:45 pm
We will start our first fund raiser (a catalog sale like last year) at our kick-off assembly on Tuesday. Please bring your class to the gym between 1:05- 1:15 pm, so that we can begin at 1:15 pm. It will be short and sweet.

4th Persuasive Writing Work Sample
In some countries, students are responsible for basic cleaning of their school buildings. Fifteen minutes is set aside each day for all students to sweep, dust, and clean classrooms. Do you believe your school should make students responsible for daily cleaning? Why or why not? Support your position with reasons and examples.
|
Classroom teachers will give this writing task and score it by the end of October. Prompts are suggestions. Your grade level team must agree on the prompt that you give...stick with the assigned mode--K-3 is Narrative and 4th grade is persuasive.
