TalentEd Mid-Year Review

Teachers - when you have your results from your mid-year assessments, please fill out your Mid-Year Review of your SLGGs on TalentEd.  We won’t be meeting in person, unless you wish to meet.  We will have a virtual meeting on TalentEd, which means you submit your form to me and I will approve it.  Mid-Year Reviews need to be submitted on TalentEd by Feb. 16th.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Sharing Devices

Chelsea will be sending out the device sharing schedule to you, so that all students will have experience using both iPads and Chromebooks.  SBAC and ELPA tests (and practice tests) will be using Chromebooks, so all of our students need practice using Chromebooks.  All ELD teachers - remember to do the ELPA practice test with your students.  All teachers should have the AIR secure browser for ELPA & SBAC now on your computers (please restart your computer, if you haven’t and it should magically appear).  We start ELPA testing with kinder on Feb. 10th.

Lunch Recess on M, W, Th (No PE)

Kinder - use gym (no equipment) - send kinders out for last 5 minutes

1st grade goes outside

2nd/3rd grade - some outside and some inside  (balls & games in gym)

4th grade - go outside

Lunch Recess on T & F (PE days)

Kinder - one IA from outside can go in the one kinder class and one from cafeteria can go in one kinder class

1st grade - go outside (if freezing cold, can go to classroom)

2nd/3rd - some can stay in cafeteria & color and some can go outside *IAs will choose who stays

4th - go outside

2:00 pm Afternoon K-1 Recess on M, W, Th (No PE)

K-1 - use the gym and go outside *IAs will decide who goes where (only wall balls or soccer ball if fields are dry)

If teachers assign missing a recess as a consequence, then the teacher needs to supervise those students, rather than sending them out to recess to stand on the wall.

Cornelius Elementary Early Learning Hour - flyer going home on Mon!

We will have our 100% meeting on Thursday, Feb. 4.  We will have 2 roving subs to cover each grade level team’s classrooms Classroom teachers just need to write sub plans for the 1 ½ hours the sub is covering their class--please get your sub plans to Irene by Wednesday.  We are canceling ELD for grades 1st - 4th and intervention groups on this day to avoid having to have subs for specialists.  Manuel will still run his 1st grade reading group and Maroha will still run her kinder reading group and SLD group.

Equity Happy Hour - Friday 2/5 at 4 pm

Thank you for sharing about the significance of your name and your race during our equity dialog on Wednesday!  We look forward to getting to know everyone better at our first Equity Happy Hour this Friday at 4 pm at Prime Time restaurant in the upstairs private room!  Please join us for our monthly Equity Staff Happy Hours at Prime Time - the first Friday of each month!

Reminders:

• National School Counseling Week is this week!  Celebrate all week with Alondra!  On Monday from 8-9 am, she will be hosting treats and conversation in the staff room.  She will be doing a fill-your-bucket activity in the staff room.  And Friday is National Wear your College Gear day!  Please wear any college tee shirt or sweatshirt that you have!

Glasses Club - Rewards distributed on Monday!

For our glasses club, any students who have worn their glasses most of the week for each week in January (they get one freebie day) will be rewarded with a prize from our Glasses Club prize box!  Cesar and I will be going from classroom to classroom from 2:30 - 3:00 pm on Monday to distribute prizes for the first 3 weeks of January.  We will pull the members of the Glasses Club out in the hall to avoid making everyone else jealous and start wanting to wear placebo glasses.  Starting in February, students must wear their glasses every day to be eligible for a prize from the prize box!  Any student so far who has worn their glasses every day in the month of January will win a big poster from the book fair!

Preschool Promise

I’ve applied for a Preschool Promise grant from ODE to have 2 preschool classrooms at Cornelius next year!  Both would be full-day preschool programs with a certified teacher and 1 or 2 IAs in each room.  ES is also applying to increase their pre-K program to be full day.  We are asking for almost $100K. Imagine how successful our students would be if we started them off with full-day preschool, taught by a certified teacher, with 18 students in the room and a ratio of 1:6 adults to students.  Wow!!!!  

Fire Drill/Lockout Drill - Tuesday at 9:30 am

This is in the middle of ELD.  I want us to be prepared for emergencies even when we are not with our homeroom students.  

We will start with a lockout drill (remember this is the drill where the emergency/danger is OUTSIDE of our building, not inside!).  I will come on the loudspeaker and say "Lockout drill.  Secure the perimeter." twice.  You continue teaching as usual.  You don't need to lock nor shut your door, but if you have a door to the outside open, you need to shut it.  I will announce that the drill is over.

Then I will pull the fire alarm and we will exit outside for a regular fire drill.

I'm trying to combine two drills into one whenever possible. :)  If the fields are still a swamp, we will only do the lockout drill.

Equity Dialogue - 1/27 at 8:30 am

We will be having our equity dialog on Wednesday at 8:30 am in the TRC, following our TAG training for teachers.  Classified staff - please modify your schedule if you don’t normally start at 8:30 am to attend by coming in late on another late start day.  I will also be sharing our Climate Survey data from the fall with you all.

Equity Happy Hour - Friday 2/5 at 4 pm

Please join us for our monthly Equity Staff Happy Hours at Primetime - the first Friday of each month, starting Feb. 5th at 4 pm!  It’s a great opportunity to get to know each other better as people, not just coworkers!  We have reserved the private upstairs room!

Gomez & Gomez Training

Our G&G training on 1/28 & 1/29 for teachers will be meeting from 8 am - 4 pm in the Grove Room.  ES’s Parent Club will be providing lunch on Thursday and our Padres en Accion Parent Club will be providing lunch on Friday for teachers!  Please talk up our Parent Night on 1/28 at 5:30 pm at ES for Gomez and Gomez info - a flyer will go out next week!

January Assessments

Be sure to have the following assessments completed by the end of January to facilitate an effective 100% meeting on Feb. 4th.  Caution - Easy CBM will be inaccessible after 1/28, so be sure to be done by then!

• Easy CBM testing for English reading (K-4),
• IDEL testing for K-3 Spanish reading,
• EDL testing for 4th grade Spanish reading (just progress monitoring)
• IAP Math testing for 3-4 math!  
• Please use IA support to complete these assessments.  Let me know if you need any support from me!
