The Cornelius Chronicle
November 13, 2015

Monday - Don’t forget to wear your uniform.

Language of the Day - Don’t forget!
I am totally guilty of this, too!  When we are in common areas, we need to encourage the language of the day by using it ourselves.  So Monday - Wednesday, that would be Spanish (if you can speak it) and Thursday & Friday, English!

Book Fair - Nov. 30 - Dec. 4
Please promote this in your classrooms, on your own personal Facebook pages, and with your own friends & families!!!!  If you have parents who would be good volunteers, please send me their names & contact info ASAP!  Here is a blurb that you can copy/paste into your social media.

Cornelius Elementary - Scholastic Book Fair - Dec 1 - Dec 3book fair.png

Giving our students access to books at very good prices (in both English & Spanish) is essential!  Cornelius Elementary earns 40% of the profits of the book fair, which will be used to buy books for the school library! This is perfect timing for holiday gifts!  Support your local school while you shop for your holiday gifts for all of the children in your family!  Give books for Christmas!!

Schedule for Book Fair:
Tuesday 12/1 - Student preview of the book fair during regular library time
Wednesday 12/2 - the book fair will be open before school (9:30 - 10:00 am), at lunch (11:45-1:15 pm), and after school (3:00-3:30 pm) for purchases
Thursday 12/3 - the book fair will be open before school (8:30 - 9:00 am), at lunch (11:45-1:15 pm), after school from 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm for parents to purchase books before the Cornelius Sing-along at 6:30 pm

Here is an online link to our Book Fair if you have friends or family who want to participate but can’t make it into the book fair: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/corneliuselementaryschool1

We are thinking of doing a staff stunt if we meet our Book Fair goal, which is $2,200 (minimum amount needed to get 40% profit - if we don’t reach it, we don’t get any profit!).....What do you think about having a staff crazy hair day or mismatch day or fun spirit day if we hit our goal?

We will put our student leaders to work helping monitor at the book fair during lunchtime, as well as making/holding up posters to advertise the week of the book fair during pick up/drop off!

Please bring your library books to the library on Tuesday morning first thing.  There will be no story nor library check out on Tuesday 12/1 because students will use their library time to watch the author video promo on the book fair and then
preview the book fair, making their wish list to take home to their parents.

What is scheduled for CIT time
We have two things scheduled for this week’s CIT time.  Please work out with your colleagues how you will be able to accomplish both!  I know it will require an additional meeting with your team for some of you.
11/18 8:00-9:00 am CIT: Data Teams - Post-data meeting (review if you met your goals, what worked, etc.  Choose your next area of focus (reading/math) and decide on your pre-test date and when you will be giving the pre-assessment - come with pre-assessment scored to next meeting on 12/2)
11/18 8:00-9:30 am IDEL training for K-3 Spanish teachers and bilingual IAs on progress monitoring/understanding the program

Community Sing-along and Meet Santa
The City of Cornelius is hosting a community Sing-along and Tree Lighting on Dec. 3rd at 6:30 pm.  It will start at the Veteran’s Memorial Park.  Then we will walk parade-style to the City Hall where there will be an opportunity to meet Santa and eat cookies!  Bring your families!  I will be bringing my daughter, Gloria!

Holidays
During this busy time of year, don’t forget to slow down and celebrate the joy of the season with your friends & family!  I am looking forward to having a week off at Thanksgiving for the first time in my career! :)  I am also looking forward to celebrating the holidays with our staff family on Sat., Dec. 12th from 5 pm - til whenever the last person leaves my house and on Dec. 16th during CIT time with all of you!  For the staff party at my house, let’s make it low key - all fun, no agenda.  Your families are invited!  I will serve hot cider and a seasonal holiday cocktail, as well as provide some sort of treats that Gloria and I will make.  Please feel free to bring your favorite dish to share!
