Anita Archer Gems
Wasn’t the Anita Archer training fantastic?! I’m going to start including an Anita Archer-ism in each Cornelius Chronicle for the rest of the year to keep her gems sparkling in our minds! Please send me your best gem!
- Write down students’ ideas and names while there is partner sharing and then the teacher shows the students’ ideas (which is highly reinforcing for kids to see their names displayed) and doesn’t waste class time by calling on each student. Teacher can also then look back at her/his notes to see if s/he is monitoring all students.
Field Trip Truck
We are going to have an on-site field trip in a special wilderness semi-truck that has been transformed into a great wilderness environment. We will take half of each class out at a time with Cheryl Rice helping, except Kinder. For Kinder, I will have each teacher take out their whole literacy class. The truck will be parked for 2 days in the back of the gym in the parking lot. Here is the schedule below.

100% Meeting Reading Data
Below you will find our results from our fall and winter testing in English and Spanish reading. We made some HUGE gains in both English and Spanish reading in increasing our low-risk readers and decreasing our high-risk readers in K-2, which shows me that our G & G model is working. We have been focused on improving native language literacy, which in turn is helping students’ second language literacy! The data shows us that what we are doing in 3rd and 4th grade isn’t working, so our fabulous 3rd and 4th grade team is meeting first thing on Tuesday morning to look at our core reading instruction and our interventions to see what changes we need to make. One of those changes will most likely to offer Spanish interventions to improve both Spanish and English reading, rather than the English interventions that we have been doing. What I love about our school is that we are all committed to doing whatever it takes to offer the very BEST to our students and not stopping until we get there!
Key: L = Low Risk
S = Some Risk
H = High Risk

Spring Fundraiser
We will kick off our spring catalog fundraiser with an assembly on the day after spring break, 3/28 from 2:30 - 3:00 pm. The fundraiser will last two weeks. The kids will be selling yummy food items - like edible cookie dough (why bake it? Just eat it straight from the package!)....Our goal will be raising money to support spring field trips! Students who sell 15+ items will earn a limo ride to have lunch at Godfather’s Pizza! There will also be a competition for teachers who get their students to participate! If 8 students sell at least one item, the teacher gets a free item from the catalog! If 14 students sell at least one item, the teacher gets 3 free items from the catalog! If 20 students sell at least one item, the teacher gets 3 free items from the catalog AND a $100 VISA gift card!!!
Notifying Cafeteria of Changes in Lunches
Please let the cafeteria know if you are planning on changing your lunch schedule, such as you have a special party or a field trip and won’t be eating the cafeteria lunch. Give a week’s notice if you need the cafeteria staff to make sack lunches.
