Ballet Folklorico/Music Presentation
A big thank you to Manuel Ramos and Tabitha Shepherd for putting on a great performance for our Mother’s Day celebration! Our 3rd and 4th graders did an outstanding job performing during the school day and the evening performance! We had about 150 students perform during the school day and about 90 students perform for 300 parents that night. It was standing room only that night and we had 300 chairs set up!
The 5K is Saturday, May 14th! Don't forget to sign up for the 5K race that benefits W.L. Henry Elementary this year! 9-11 am begins at Echo Shaw! http://www.teamupforstudents.org/
School Uniforms
Here is a copy of the report that I’m sharing with the school board in May from our survey of parents regarding our uniforms. As you can see, there was an overwhelming agreement with school uniforms continuing. Each year, the parents need to be surveyed to see if we will continue with our school uniform per board policy. Each year there is at least 80% of parents in favor of continuing.
We will be sending home a flyer for students to bring in old uniforms that no longer fit (especially 4th graders) and to exchange them for uniforms that fit. We were given several boxes of uniforms donated from Emmaus Christian School in Cornelius, as they are closing this year.
Per School Uniforms Policy JFCAA-AR, Cornelius Elementary Principal will evaluate the uniform policy as needed and will include parents in the decision making. We conducted our yearly parent survey and received feedback from 49 families. We did not solicit feedback from our current 4th graders as they will not be attending Cornelius Elementary next year. The 49 families represent this school year’s kindergarten through 3rd grade students.
88% of the respondents indicated that they support the uniform policy and feel that we should continue to implement this practice next year. There are several pages of parent comments that I can share with the board if you would like detailed feedback from the Cornelius parents.
Given this feedback, Cornelius Elementary will continue to implement the use of school uniforms for the 2016-2017 school year.
Talent Show
We have so many fun activities at the end of the year. But we just aren’t going to be able to pull off a Talent Show. I know that some of your students will be very disappointed. One idea that you could do with the kiddos who wanted to perform is have them perform for your class. Another idea would be to have the students perform their talent for the Volunteer Appreciation presentation from your class. Please let Cesar and I know if you need any help with letting your students down easy!
Reminders:
- Please send home the Volunteer Appreciation invitations to your volunteers!
- Any Parent Input forms that you receive back should be turned into the office for classroom placement next year - these are due by 5/20.
- Please fill out this RTI survey by the end of the day TODAY (Friday): all staff members (classroom teachers, SPED teachers/facilitators, IAs) who provide or support literacy instruction for students need to complete this short 5-10 minute survey no later than Friday, May 13th.
