BIG NEWS!!!!!!
We are getting a Pre-K program next year as we were awarded Pre-K Promise Grant from the state!  Yay!!!!!  Maroha has accepted the job as our Pre-K teacher at Cornelius next year!  She will be moving into Manuel’s room and Manuel will be moving into Linda’s room.  We will have a maximum of 20 students in the Pre-K class with a full-time teacher and IA.  It is a full-day class for our Pre-K’s.

Cornelius Elementary - Scholastic Book Fair -
Buy One, Get One FREE
5/16-5/20

Wow!!!  What a successful event!  Our kids are hungry for books!  In 5 days, we exceeded our goal of $2,200 by $700!  We sold a total of $2,892.21!  We don’t earn a ton from the BOGO book fair because the rewards go to the families with the great deals, but we do earn 5% total off of both of our fairs!  So, we should be earning about $365 in Scholastic dollars to spend on books for this sale.  A big thank you to our book fair super star, Cesar Loeza!!!  Thank you to Diego for helping set up and tear down the book fair!  Thank you to Pam, Cheryl R., Chelsea, and others for stepping in when they saw us struggling with a line around the school!  Thanks to parents, Ashley Handy and Brenda Onofre, for helping us out during the book fair!  Whew!  I’m happy to take my book fair chair hat off and be a principal again.  There is a reason I didn’t go into retail!  :)  I am very excited to share that we have enough donations in books throughout the year to be able to send a brand-new book home with every single student in grades K-4 for summer reading and to keep in their collection!

CIT on Wednesday
Certified staff will be participating in a “year in review” activity - reflecting back on our year.  What worked?  What didn’t work?  What do we want to do differently next year?  What do we want to continue doing next year?

At 8:45 am, we will start our whole staff meeting and continuing talking about what worked this year and get everyone’s perspective.  We will also take a staff picture!

At 9:15 am, there will be an optional meeting with American Fidelity staff to address any questions regarding the upcoming dependent verification exercise that we have to participate in on June 1st.  If you didn’t receive a letter or an email about this, you don’t need to worry about it!

Last Day of School
We will be dismissing students at 12:15 pm on June 10th.  We will start the day with a whole school assembly (more to come on that!) and, afterward, each class will have time for a class celebration in your classrooms.  We will be serving the students lunch on the last day of school before we leave.  By June 1st, you will need to mark on a class list (with student ID numbers) who wants a sack lunch from the cafeteria on that last day of school.  How that will look on June 10th:  We will bring down the sack lunches to each classroom around 11:00-11:15 am.  Students will eat lunch in their classrooms - all trash needs to be thrown away in the classrooms. We will not be doing an official lunch recess.  Then we will start lining up for buses at 12:10 pm.  After we dismiss all 341 students, we will have a staff luncheon catered by Maggie’s Buns! :)  June 10th is a full work day for all staff.  After the luncheon, you will have time to start packing up and doing end-of-the-year, closing-up-shop chores!
